HTC U11 released, features a Snapdragon 835, 6 GB RAM and Edge Sense technology

HTC has finally raised the curtains and announced the U11. The new smartphone is a successor to the HTC 10 but comes with the latest super shiny glass design that debuted on the HTC U Ultra and U Play.

As we had heard from the leaks, the USP of the smartphone is a feature called Edge Sense. This feature allows a user to squeeze the phone to trigger various functions, like opening apps, taking a picture, opening the voice assistant, and so on. The magic happens in the smartphone’s frame where you can actually set the intensity of how hard you need to squeeze it in order to perform functions. It seems like a really  innovative way to interact with a smartphone. We can only comment on the practicality once we try it out, however.

The U11 also comes with HTC’s new Sense Companion voice assistant which launched on the HTC U Ultra and U Play. It gives you suggestions based on your usage patterns. The handset will also feature Google Assistant, which makes sense considering that all new Nougat-based flagship smartphones are coming with the new AI system built-in. As an additional touch, HTC is offering Amazon Alexa as a third voice assistant option in certain regions.

As for the specifications, the HTC U11 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. It will be offered in two storage and RAM variants, one with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage and another with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. There is a 5.5-inch QHD Super LCD 5 panel, protected with Gorilla Glass 5. At the back you get a 12 MP UltraPixel 3-branded camera offering a 1.4 micron pixel size, f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilization and a dual-LED flash. The camera can record 4K videos and slow motion video in 1080p at 120 fps. The front camera is a 16 MP unit which can record 1080p Full HD video, and click panoramic selfies. Other features include a USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, but misses out on the 3.5 mm audio jack.

The HTC U11 also comes with 3D audio recording capabilities, for which the company has fitted 4 microphones. The smartphone is also Hi-Res Audio certified and comes with a similar BoomSound Hi-Fi setup like the HTC 10. There is a 3,000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The handset is IP67 certified so yes, it is splash and dust resistant, but not completely waterproof, like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 7.

It will be offered in Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White, and Solar Red color options. Global pricing for the handset is £749 (around Rs 53,000). But knowing HTC, the pricing could go way higher when it arrives in India.
