See the New Earplug that Allows you Recieve a Call with a Smile or Wink

Sooner or later you will start accepting calls on your mobile phone with just a smile, cough or wink. Thanks to scientists who have developed an earplug that can easily detect facial gestures to control smartphones. The modern smartphones are always controlled by just touching the screen. However, there are some situations in which this type of innovation cannot be implemented. Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD in Rostock in Germany have developed the Smart Earpiece called EarFieldSensing (EarFS), that recognises facial gestures via a special ear plug.

The researchers of this new innovation evaluated various technologies with which the movements of a person's head and face can be interpreted. In this process, great importance was placed on practical use in everyday life. For instance, systems that read gestures using sensors directly on one's face are very accurate and able to recognise a large number of gestures. However, the disadvantage is that they are so conspicuous and unpleasant to wear, though, that they are not suitable for daily use in public.

Instead, systems are needed which are as inconspicuous as possible. The new EarFS ear plug measures the muscular currents and distortions of the ear canal which occur during facial movements. The sensor detects even the smallest movements in the face through the way the shape of the ear canal changes and measures muscle currents that arise during the movement of the face or head. “The challenge was that these currents and movements are sometimes very small and need to be intensified,” said Denys Matthies, a scientist at the Fraunhofer IGD.

“In addition, the sensors cannot be interfered with by other movements of the body, such as vibrations during walking or external interferences, Matthies said. “To solve this problem, an additional reference electrode was applied to the earlobe which records the signals coming from outside,” he said. The signals detected inside the ear are matched with the signals coming from the outside? the remaining useful signal enables clear facial gesture identification, even if the person wearing the EarFS is in motion.

EarFS not only allows micro-interactions with a smartphone, such as accepting and rejecting phone calls or operating the music player. The evaluation of facial movements also allows conclusions about weariness, exertion and other emotional states of the user. As a result, smartphones could warn drivers when signs of weariness and fatigue are registered or could switch automatically to mute when drivers are concentrating attentively. The use of the technology is also imaginable in the medical field.

For example, it could help people with locked-in syndrome to communicate more easily by allowing them to operate computers with facial movements which is a very good advantage.

Now, the translation page of Whatsapp requests the translation for the Night Mode. Unlike the Night Mode in other apps where the UI is turned dark to reduce the strain on the eyes at nights, the Night Mode in WhatsApp is for the Camera. With this new feature, the camera UI gets a new button for enhancing camera functionality while capturing photos in the low light conditions. We know that the quality of the output from the camera of the 3rd party apps is much worse the stock camera app and few apps also miss the basic features like auto focus.

Apart from the switching to the front or rear camera, the app has only two other options – zoom in/out and turn on/off LED flash. As of now, we aren’t sure whether this new Night Mode will also be added to the video calling screen or not. WhatsApp also misses the video filters which are already added to the Facebook and Instagram apps. Since the translation is requested for iPhone, we might first see this new feature on WhatsApp for iPhone instead of the Android version. The voice calling was first added to the iOS app, whereas the video calling is debuted first on the Android beta app.

The Night Mode option is available for the iOS users using the WhatsApp with the version 2.17.10 or latest. It can be found beside the flash icon on the top right corner in the camera UI. As of now, this feature is only limited to iOS user and we expect it to be soon available for the Android users.

How to Use Data Saver Mode to Block Ads on Android

If you are sticking Chrome, this is the only step you can take to avoid data-hogging content online.
Data Saver compresses aspects of web pages that aren't required on mobile devices. It helps to save your data bill and offers a smoother web browsing experience as your phone no longer struggles to pull down unnecessary random ads and animations.
It can lead to a somewhat good browsing experience, and there is a possibility that some web pages will look wonky. But you can always disable Data Saver - it's a two-second job.
Open up Chrome, and then hit the three dots menu icon in the top righthand corner. Choose Settings, then find Data Saver. Ensure this is set to On.

Another type is the one produced locally by phone repairers. They look for faulty phones, repair them and change their casing to make it look new. Sometimes,

Follow the tips below to identify a refurbished phone anytime you see them

  • Check the specs of the phone from a genuine Android phone review blog
and relate them to what you see. Specs like: Os, Android version, RAM, ROM, etc

Physical Home Buttons vs On-Screen Home Buttons It has been physical home buttons from the onset. So many great smartphones have been launched with physical home button by their manufacturers and we the users have been rocking these devices without no complaint. Few years later, some smartphones are now designed to have an on-screen buttons neglecting the physical/capacitive home buttons we use to know and used to. I strongly believe this new development was from the great system analyst whose job is to analyse the existing device and check for errors or any means of improving its usability. I really commend them for this amazing feature owning to the fact that many smartphone lovers fell in love with this new feature. But we still have manufacturers like Samsung and even HTC that continue to put hardware keys in their devices even though Google has been clear that Android is all about on-screen buttons. Meanwhile, the likes of LG, Sony and Motorola have mostly sided with Google as all their newly launched smartphonescomes with on-screen home button. Even Blackberry Priv that uses keyboard has upgraded to on-screen home button. Some prefer on-screen button and despise the physical button, another prefer the physical button and despise the on-screen button while some are on the fence as they're neither worried nor bothered about the position of the home button on a smartphone.
